We’re looking for exceptional MSc & PhD students to join us as interns at LASTMILE. We’re open to full-time commitments of a few months, as well as part-time (10-15 hrs/wk) remote work over a longer period. We’re an early stage startup, which means you’ll get experiences & responsibilities that you wouldn’t get interning anywhere else.
About this role
The core of your role is designing, implementing, and training algorithms that drive conversational software, and furthering your skills working with an incredible team. We don’t draw a hard line between our research and engineering teams: you’ll do research and ship commercial quality software that puts it to use. We mostly work in Python, but dip into other languages when it makes sense to, so you’ll be comfortable picking up a range of tools. One day you might prototype something from scratch in numpy, and on another work on production code using a high-level library. And there's a great team of helpful people to learn from.
You have proven skills of putting Machine Learning to use, and you’re comfortable with the mathematics. You work well in a team, can teach & learn from others, and communicate what you’re working on with non-technical team members.
Things You Might Do
LASTMILE is a startup, so you’ll have to be comfortable rolling up your sleeves and doing whatever needs doing. However, you can definitely expect to:
LASTMILE builds tools to enable developers to make conversational software that really works. By conversational software we mean voice control systems, VR, AR, IoT, virtual assistants, and yes, bots. Regexes and if/else statements only get you so far, and we’re building the tools for going beyond that using deep learning. Open source matters to us, which is why we released rasa NLU in 2016. Our customers are leading corporates who want to adopt conversational AI to, for example, automate parts of their customer service. We're based in Berlin, funded by Techstars and experienced angel investors.
